After intermediate, AP, TS vie to conduct Eamcet
HYDERABAD: After the Intermediate exam row has subsided with both States deciding to conduct exams separately, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are vying with each other to conduct Eamcet.
With both governments on the same page that Eamcet be held as a common exam, there is, however, no unanimity which university be entrusted to conduct the exam.
The Telangana government has been stating that it would conduct Eamcet in consonance with the AP State Reorganisation Act-2014. It wants the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) and an university selected by it be given the task of conducting the exam.
The contention of Telangana is that since the headquarters of united AP Higher Education Council is located in Hyderabad, according to Section 75 of AP Reorganisation Act, TSCHE be given the responsibility, sources in TSCHE said.
A senior official in TSCHE said, 'If the AP government wants us to conduct the exam by placing a requisition, we are willing to offer services.'
Against this backdrop, AP HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao who addressed presspersons here on Tuesday said the Telangana government should agree for a common exam and allow APSCHE to conduct the exam.
'Safeguarding the interests of students in both States should be our prime concern. Let us not disturb the status quo. Let the APSCHE conduct the common exam,' he said.
