Panel to expedite Polavaram project
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed the officials to set up a high-power committee to ensure that the construction of the proposed Polavaram Irrigation Project is completed by 2018.
The Chief Minister suggested that Chief Secretary would head the panel, which comprises Principal Secretaries of Irrigation, Finance and Energy departments.
Naidu held a review meeting with the officials of irrigation department. During the meeting, Naidu directed the officials to take all steps to complete the construction of the Polavaram project by 2018.
'Very soon we will get all required permissions from the Forest Department for the project. Hence, the process of land acquisition should be completed at the earliest,' he told them.
The Chief Minister further asked the officials of the irrigation department to prepare project reports to construct new irrigation projects in the backward Rayalaseema and North Andhra to cater to the irrigation needs of these regions.
