Big B receives ANR Award 'If my voice or face is needed in any way for Telangana, then I will be ready to contribute,' said legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan after receiving the ANR Award here.
The award, instituted by the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao, was presented to the Bollywood legend by Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at a glittering function held at Annapurna Studios here on Saturday evening.
The earlier recipients of the award, instituted nine years ago, included Dev Anand, Shyam Benegal and Hema Malini _ all prior to ANR's demise.
'About fifty years ago movies were regarded as below the dignity and cultured families used to keep their children away from my movies. It is stars like ANR, who were not just great actors but also great human beings, who brought dignity to the movie industry. I am honoured to get an award instituted by him,' Amitabh said after receiving the award.
The Bollywood great was humility personified and presented a picture of gratitude and grace as guests at the function praised him with choicest adjectives.
'If there is an actor whose movie I had watched more than once it is Amitabh. I watched Amitabh's Abhiman more than 50 times. Even today, whenever I feel slightly depressed, I watch 'Abhiman',' KCR said.
Saying that it was Nageswara Rao who was instrumental in bringing the Telugu film industry to Hyderabad from Chennai, KCR said he would lend all support for development of the film industry here. He also lavished praise on Ch Ramoji Rao for constructing a world-class film city in Hyderabad.
Earlier, an audio-video presentation on Big B, featuring Venkatesh, Trisha and Puri Jagannath and prepared by the students of Annapurna International School of Film and Media was made.
While Amala compered the programme, Nagarjuna proposed vote of thanks. Actress and Bharatanatyam exponent Shobana, along with her students, regaled the audience with 'Dancing Drums', a specially- choreographed item.
