TS government rethinking on FAST HYDERABAD: The Telangana government told the High Court that it was rethinking on implementation of the GO issued on FAST (Financial Assistance to the Students of Telangana) scheme.
A division bench comprising chief justice KJ Sengupta and justice PV Sanjay Kumar was dealing with two public interest litigations (PILs) filed by former ministers of the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh Pithani Satyanarayana and Dokka Manikya Varaprasada Rao challenging GO 36 dated July 30, 2014 issued to work out modalities for implementation of FAST scheme and prescribing November 1, 1956 as a benchmark to extend financial assistance to students.
While seeking some more time for filing the government's reply in the case, the special government pleader of Telangana state said that the government was rethinking on implementation of the impugned GO.
Expressing its displeasure at the government's failure to file a counter affidavit in the case on Monday despite the court's direction, the bench asked whether the government would file the counter or not.
In reply, the government counsel sought some more time to facilitate the government to come up with a concrete reply on the matter. After recording the statement of the counsel, the bench adjourned the case hearing by two weeks.
It may be mentioned here that the state government has recently decided to do away with 1956 as the cut-off year for determining local status of the students to avail fee reimbursement.
