CPM will fight for Special Package: Brinda VISAKHAPATNAM: Miffed over the delay in implementation of special package to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, the CPM is planning to raise the issue during the forthcoming budget session of Parliament. It wants the Central government to fulfil its promises without failure.
CPM politburo member Brinda Karat told newsmen here that her party would fight for the rightful demands of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states as per the AP Reorganisation Act. She pointed out that the Central government did not fulfil its promise of granting special status to Andhra Pradesh and said that the party would fight for the same in the budget session.
She alleged that the state and the Central governments failed to pay compensations to the victims of cyclone Hudhud till date. 'The ruling parties are restricting themselves to making promises without considering the emotions and aspirations of people. This would prove costly for them,' she added.
Terming the landslide victory of Aam Admi Party (AAP) a strong message to the Modi government at the Centre, Brinda wanted AAP to honour the electoral promises failing which they would face public ire. She said that AAP was not an alternative to the CPM as the former lacks ideological base. The CPM is making efforts to strengthen its roots in the Telugu states along with the states like West Bengal and Kerala where the party is strong.
'We want to reach out to a larger number of middle class people and strengthen the party base,' said Brinda and hinted that the party had no merger plans with CPI.
