Newly wed city pilot killed in chopper crash HYDERABAD: Country comes first for the Khan family. It has sent all of its sons, over three generations, to the armed forces. But, fate hasn't been kind to this family of patriots.
Major Taher Hussain Khan (30), a pilot in the Indian Air Force, was among the two officers killed in a Dhruv helicopter crash at Safapura in the Ganderbal area of Jammu and Kashmir. 'What wrong did my son do? He got married just eight months ago!' cried an inconsolable Sarver Khan, his father, at their residence in Suraram village in Qutbullapur mandal.
The family is in shock ever since the heart-breaking news was conveyed to them. The handsome Taher was married in May last and had been living with his wife in Kashmir. The family had last seen their beloved son at his wedding.
'He had delayed his wedding till he got a promotion for which he really worked hard. Love for the country was first and foremost for him,' Raheem, Taher's proud cousin, recalled as relatives, friends and well-wishers poured in to console the bereaved family.
Taher was the second of the three sons of Afzar Begum and Sarver Hussain Khan, who had also served in the IAF. Taher's younger brother Mahmood is a corporal at the Air Force Station in Begumpet and his elder brother Mazhar is a clerk (GD) at Jhansi.
Sarver Hussain Khan and his two brothers had also served in the armed forces. Of the seven sons in the present generation, six are either in the Army or the Air Force. Taher was an aviator with the 202 Army Aviation Squad. He had joined the IAF in 2002-03 as a technician.
