KCR raps GHMC for its 'garbage tactic' to recover tax dues HYDERABAD:The GHMC's move to place dustbins in front of the properties of tax defaulters in a bid to make them pay seems to have backfired spectacularly. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and local ministers have reportedly expressed their displeasure over its overzealous act, particularly at a time when swine flu is on the rampage in the city.
The result: a chastened civic body removed the garbage in less than 24 hours. Sources said the CM rapped GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, citing the GHMC Act under which the civic body can realise its dues from tax defaulters legally.
When contacted, Kumar told, 'I do not keep track of all these things. You can talk to our officials.' The officials, in turn, claimed they had cleared the garbage as the defaulters cleared their dues. The High Court and the Lok Ayukta had in the past admonished the corporation for resorting to this kind of tactics.
