Riverbank villagers go on hunger strike HYDERABAD: Villagers belonging to Penumaka and Undavalli, which are among the nine riverbank villages, sat on a day-long fast to categorically convey to the government that they would not part with their fertile agricultural lands.
'The State government is planning to invoke the Land Acquisition Act to forcibly take lands from us. But, we are not ready to surrender our high-yielding lands to the government to turn them into a concrete jungle. We will fight it out till our last breath. We are taking legal advice to challenge the government's move in the court,' Donti Balaji Reddy, farmers' leader from Undavalli village, told.
The farmers belonging to these nine villages have decided to organise an all-party meeting at Mangalagiri on Feb 19 to announce their course of action. Sources said the main opposition YSRC has decided to organise protest demonstrations in support of the farmers.
