Centre will amend AP Reorganisation Act: Venkaiah Naidu HYDERABAD: Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that the Centre would amend the AP Reorganisation Act-2014 in the ensuing Budget session of Parliament to rectify the anomalies pointed out by the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments.
He conceded that the Act was riddled with loopholes, but refused to disclose the nature of the proposed amendments. Speaking to reporters here, Venkaiah also said that the Centre was consulting both the state governments to elicit their views on the amendments.
'The Reorganisation Act was hurriedly passed at the fag end of the UPA regime. It has many loopholes. Hence, amendments will be brought to check the anomalies in the Act in the Budget session of Parliament,' he said.
Blaming the previous UPA dispensation, the Union Minister alleged that it had drafted the Bill hastily and failed to foresee the problems the two states would face after the bifurcation.
'Had the Bill been drafted properly, by taking enough time, these mistakes would not have crept in. There is a need to amend the Act to make it more effective,' he opined and squarely blamed the erstwhile UPA Government for 'the problems AP and Telangana are facing currently.'
Taking exception to the way the Congress demand that the Centre should implement the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, Venkaiah said, 'The UPA made the promises without looking into the issues and now it wants the NDA Government to fulfil those promises!'
He had a word of praise for AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart KCR for resolving the issue of sharing the water from Krishna river amicably. 'Both deserve appreciation for resolving the issue. When I had met both the CM in Delhi, I told them to resolve all issues through dialogue,' he said.
