Special Status: Cong wants all party meet VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada City Congress Committee has demanded that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu call an all-party meeting to discuss ways to bring pressure on the Centre for according special category status to the state.
Speaking to mediapersons here, City Congress president Malladi Vishnu and spokesperson Kolanukonda Sivaji said that neither Chandrababu Naidu nor the Centre were serious about implementing the provisions of the AP reorganisation Act.
They said that since the centre wants to amend the Act, let it take inputs from AP. Before it does, let Chandrababu Naidu elicit opinion of all parties, they said.
They took exception to Naidu claiming that the Centre was favourably disposed to granting special category status while Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu saying the exactly opposite, that it is not as easy as is being made out.
Vishnu took objection to Naidu seeking special category status when he met BJP president Amit shah at his son's wedding reception. This only shows the kind of seriousness he was attaching to special category status. 'Would any one raise such an important issue at a wedding reception,' he asked.
Referring to issue of notices to the Congress by the civic authorities for removal of statues, Vishnu said any effort in that direction would be met with stiff resistance.
