High Court dismiss pleas on Chest Hospital shifting Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi government's decision to shift the Erragadda Chest Hospital to Vikarabad, about 100 km from Hyderabad, got the nod from the Hyderabad High Court.
Reacting on two separate petitions filed by BJP national executive member Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Congress leader B Judson challenging the proposal to shift the chest hospital, the High Court maintained it could not interfere in the issue, as the government's proposal was not against the AP Reorganisation Act.
The court also felt it was better the Chest Hospital was shifted away from the heart of the city in the interests of the patients. The court also opined that there were no proper reasons to issue stay orders against the proposal of shifting the hospital.
The petitioners contended that poor patients would suffer on account of shifting. The TRS government has already issued orders to shift Chest Hospital and took a decision to construct a new Secretariat at Erragadda by taking over the land.
Nagam, however, claimed that the High Court had not rejected his plea to direct the government not to shift the hospital. 'The court has asked me to explain the issue to the government as it is a policy decision. I will take the help of experts and write a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, ministers and every MLA on the problems of shifting the hospital,' Nagam said.
He suggested that the Chief Minister construct a palace in 1,000 acres and declare himself as the Eighth Nizam, but desist from shifting the chest hospital from its existing location.
Nagam pointed out that the chest hospital is not only for TB but also for chest diseases, HIV, Swine flu. 'These days, chest-related diseases are increasing because of air pollution and every capital city has a chest hospital.
An ultra-modern sleep lab facility is available at the chest hospital. All sleep-related respiratory disorders are on the rise and this facility must within the reach of the common man,' he said.
Reddy said that there is a risk of losing medical seats if the hospital is shifted as every general hospital should have separate departments like maternity, chest and other departments.
The BJP leader said that as directed by the court, he would give suggestions to the Chief Minister and if he didn't listen, he would approach the court yet again.
