EC issues notification for MLC elections Hyderabad, Feb 19 (INN): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday issued notification for the elections to fill four seats of Members of Legislative Council, two each in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states, which will fall vacant on March 29.
The East-West Godavari and Krishna-Guntur Teachers' constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, represented by KVV Satyanarayana Raju and KS Lakshmana Rao respectively, will fall vacant on March 29.
Similarly, the term of Dr K Nageshwar and Dileep Kumar Kapilavai, representing the Mahaboobnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates' constituencies respectively, will expire on March 29. The ECI is conducting elections to fill these vacancies.
The ECI will start receiving nominations from today onwards and the last date to submit the same will be February 26. The nominations will be scrutinised on 27th February. The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be 2nd March and polling will be held on 16th March from 8 AM to 4 PM. The counting of votes will be done on 19th March.
Meanwhile, both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governments have requested the Election Commission of India to prepone the elections by one day in view of intermediate examinations beginning from March 16. The ECI is yet to take a decision in this regard.
