Journalists stage dharna against restrictions Hyderabad, Feb 20 (INN): The Telangana Union of Working Journalist (TUWJ) staged a dharna before the C-Block, which houses Chief Minister's Office, in protest against the government's decision to impose restrictions on the entry of media into the State Secretariat.
Led by TUWJ President M Chandrashekar Reddy, General Secretary Virahat Ali, Secretary Kranti and other leaders, journalists of both print and electronic media registered their strong protest.
They said that the media has played a key role in the formation of Telangana and had lot of expectations from the new government. However, instead of taking up welfare measures like issuing health cards, the government started neglecting them and even delayed the issue of regular Accreditation Cards to the journalists. Now the fresh decision is nothing but an attempt to encroach upon Freedom of Press.
They demanded that the government withdraw its decision and grant completely liberty to media as provisioned in the Constitution of India.
