JNTU professor suspended for 'harassing' girl student HYDERABAD: A professor at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad was suspended from duties after the students alleged that he sexually harassed the girl students in the university.
After bringing the issue to the university authorities, the students also lodged a police complaint against Devendar, an outsourcing faculty member who was accused of misbehaving with the girl students.
The students said, they have been raising the issue for the past few days, but the university authorities responded only after they staged a protest demanding strict action against him.
The accused was also reportedly beaten up by the students after the girl students made repeated complaints against him for his alleged misbehavior with several of them. Recently the professor lodged a complaint at KPHB police station against the students for attacking him on the campus.
V Sreekanth Goud, Inspector, KPHB said, 'We have received complaints from both the students and the professor. Based on the complaint by the students, a case has been registered against the professor under sections 504, 506 and 509 of IPC. A case also has been registered against the students under sections 506, 324 and read with 34.'
After receiving complaints from both the students and professor against each other, the university authorities formed an internal committee comprising faculty members to investigate the issue.
