KCR to consult journalists over barring entry of media
HYDERABAD: Entry of journalists into the Secretariat will not be barred completely but there is every need to regulate them, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said here Friday even as opposition parties and journalists' unions cried foul over the proposed curbs on the media.
'We have just discussed the issue. There is a need to see that media entry into the Secretariat is restricted. We will not take any undemocratic decision but there is every need to discipline and regulate them,'' Rao said speaking to reporters at the TRS office here.
The Chief Minister, however, said he would take the opinion of journalists before taking a final call. He will be attending a meeting with journalists at the Telangana Press Academy on Saturday at 2 pm to discuss the issue.
Meanwhile, the Indian Journalists' Union and the Telangana State Union of Working Journalists, in a joint statement, questioned the contention of the government that the presence of journalists in the Secretariat was hindering work.
'We are against a blanket ban as it is a violation of the freedom of press. But we are not averse to reasonable restrictions,'' they said. The TDP and the Congress too criticised the government move, terming it dictatorial.
