Bar assns to approach CJI for AP High Court VISAKHAPATNAM: Expressing their disappointment over the delay in announcing a separate High Court for the truncated Andhra Pradesh, members of the district bar associations in the state passed a resolution to submit a joint memorandum to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, high court judges and the Chief Justice of India.
Participating in a meeting of office-bearers of nine out of the 13 district bar associations in the state, Visakhapatnam Bar Association president VBA J Prithviraj said that it was disappointing that no proposals had been submitted for setting up a high court for the new state of Andhra Pradesh.
'We would not hesitate to put pressure on the government, if steps are not taken to form a new high court for the state,' he added.
The members also discussed the future course of action. However, they failed to reach a consensus as lawyers from various districts like Krishna, Guntur and Visakhapatnam pitched in favour of their respective districts to set up the HC.
The bar association members said they had passed three resolutions which include establishment of a HC in AP, issuance of health cards to all the advocates and setting up of a welfare fund with `100 crore in AP. The same team would again meet at Guntur on March 8 to chart the future course of action.
The members alleged that the government was not taking their demand seriously and warned that they would intensify their struggle if the government did not respond.
Vijayawada Bar Association president SD Srinivasa Rao said that since the continuation of the existing HC in Hyderabad as a common entity for the two states is causing disputes among the legal fraternity, the lawyers were demanding AP should have a separate HC.
