Inter-state cricket betting racket busted Hyderabad, Feb 22 (INN): The Hyderabad City Police on Sunday busted an inter-State cricket betting racket and arrested one person.
On a tip off, the East Zone Task team of Commissioner's Task Force conducted raid on the house of a businessman, Medicharla Venkateshwar Rao, 42, in Sai Sri Saket Apartments of New Nallakunta.
He was allegedly accepting bets over his cell phone for ICC World Cup 2015 cricket match between India and South Africa, which was being played at Melbourne in Australia, on Sunday.
After the arrest, Rao reportedly confessed before the police that he was involved in betting for the last one year along with his partner Naidu of Narasapuram in West Godavari district.
The police team seized one Samsung 29 Inches Colour TV, One Dell Laptop, One Set Top Box, two mobile phones, Net Cash Rs. 47,000/-, and three note books from his possession. His partner Naidu is absconding. The accused person and seized property handed over to S.H.O Nallakunta for further action.
