Stop forced land-pooling, demands YSRC VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress legislators have demanded that the state government immediately stop the forced acquisition of lands in Tullur region in the name of land-pooling for the proposed new capital city and return the consent letters to the farmers immediately.
In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister through Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) special commissioner N Srikanth in Vijayawada on Monday, YSRC legislators accused the government of using underhand methods and threats to acquire land in the name of land-pooling.
Pointing out that even the NDA Government, which had brought in an ordinance amending the Land Acquisition Act 2013, was now reconsidering its stance over the issue with mounting pressure from other political parties and social activists like Anna Hazare.
However, the TDP government in the state seems to be little bothered about the developments and was continuing with its plans of taking away 50,000 acre fertile lands in the first phase.
YSRC had even claimed that none of the TDP leaders had parted with his lands in the region earmarked for the new capital city of the state. They demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into land-pooling. Alleging threats from ministers and government officials to the farmers, it demanded a judicial inquiry.
Stating that it was not averse to the capital in Tullur, it wanted only government lands in the region to be used for capital construction.
Earlier in the day, YSRC legislators visited various villages in Tullur mandal and extended support to the farmers who are unwilling to give their lands for capital construction. In Tullur, some youth, who are said to be TDP supporters, raised objections to YSRC leaders' visit, but were quickly dispelled by the police.
