Opposition parties condemn suspension of TDP MLAs Hyderabad, March 9 (INN): Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy has strongly condemned the suspension of TDP MLAs for the entire budget session of Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Speaking in the House on Monday, Jana Reddy said that Speaker S Madhusudan Chary should take stern action against the MLAs who disrespected the National Anthem. However, taking action against all the legislators on the basis of selective footage was wrong. He alleged that the TRS Government was trying to weaken the opposition parties by suppressing factual information on what exactly happened in the House during the Governor's address on March 7.
Jana Reddy said suspending almost all members of an opposition party for the entire session was wrong. He urged the government to revoke the suspension by reducing it to one or two days.
The Bharatiya Janata Party too strongly opposed the TDP members' suspension for the entire session. BJP floor leader Dr K Lakshman appealed to the Speaker to review the footage by convening an all-party meeting. He said while the disrespect towards National Anthem was not tolerable, the members should be given an opportunity to tender an apology if they had really disrespected the National Anthem. He said suspension of almost all members of an opposition party on mere suspicion would set a wrong precedent.
Later, the BJP members staged a walk out from the House after government refused to revoke the suspension.
