Villagers nab treasure hunt gang
Warangal, January 5: An eight member gang which was on a digging spree near a temple for treasure hunt was nabbed by Gurijala villagers and handed over to police.
Narsampet rural Circle Inspector, G Rajaratnam said that a two wheeler and a trolley were recovered from the gang members and they were produced before the court.
He brushed aside the charge that the gang had brought with them an 11 year old boy who was to be sacrificed. The boy (Anil) is also part of the gang, the inspector said.
The members of the gang hail from different places and were helped by M Seenu, a local and who has the habit of spreading rumours that there was hidden treasure in the village, he said.
The gang members started digging the land near Pochamma temple on Wednesday night and when two villagers accosted, they tried to flee but the villagers caught hold of them and handed over to police.
On questioning they spilled the beans and the remaining members were arrested. However, the boy who was made to sleep in Seenu's house after a drinking session started crying and villagers thought that he was bought for sacrifice. However, police revealed that the boy was part of the gang.
The arrested gang members include, P Rajender( boy's uncle) of Itukalapalli, Haridasu Venkateswarlu of Girni Bavi, Erram Lakshminarayana of Deeksha konda, Mallarapu Mani (Hyderabad), and Banaru Ilaiah of Deeksha kunta.
