Murder at dawn in Madhapur Hyderabad: In a ghastly crime in the wee hours of today, two masked marauders broke into a house in the Ayyappa Society in Madha'pur and murdered an electrical contractor after tying up his wife. They decamped with jewellery and cash worth one lakh rupees.
The offenders had snapped the power supply to the victims' house be'fore they struck. The victim, K Sat'yanarayana Murthy, 55, used to run his office at Prashanth Nagar in Kuka'tpally. He and his wife Varalakshmi live on the first floor of a 2-storeyed house.
The chilling incident took place sometime between 2 and 3 in the morning, Madhapur police said. Circumstantial evidences show the duo had first got into the balcony and gained access into the house. 'We are not sure whether Murthy opened the main door or someone else did it,' said Madhapur police inspector K Srikanth Reddy.
Once in, they slit the man's throat before they went into the next room where his wife was sleeping. They beat her up badly and gagged her before stealing all the gold jewellery and cash available and bolted.
'There are CCTV cameras and electronic alarms installed but the offenders cleverly snapped the power lines to the apartment. This could be the handiwork of somebody who had known the couple,' police said.
'Moreover, when we reached the spot we noticed a hefty amount of jewellery that was kept in the cupboard from which the cash had been stolen. The criminals probably didn't see the gold in the dark. Since the incident took place in the early hours no one has seen them,' he added.
The clues team along with dog squad reached the spot to collect evidence. Meanwhile, the Madhapur police has registered a case of murder for gain and investigation is on.
