Cong wants Karthika Reddy to continue as GHMC Mayor Hyderabad, Nov 25 (INN): The Congress party on Friday asked the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen to allow GHMC Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy to continue on her post for one more year.
As per the power sharing agreement the Congress and MIM had after the GHMC elections, Karthika Reddy will have to relinquish her post on December 4 on the completion of two years to facilitate the election of MIM candidate as the next GHMC Mayor.
Likewise, Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain Meraj will quit the post which will be filled with a Congress candidate. The parties will again swap the posts after two years.
Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Friday had a meeting with MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi asking him to postpone the post-swapping agreement for one year.
Later, talking to media persons Botsa said that the Congress party has sought the extension of Karthika Reddy's tenure for one more year to complete the pending works in the GHMC. He said he would also discuss the issue with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and GHMC Congress president and Minister Danam Nagender.
However, sources say that Akbaruddin Owaisi has refused the proposal and asked Botsa to take steps for the election of MIM candidate for the post by December 4.
