Dowry claims one more life
Hyderabad, Nov 25 (INN): A 20-year-old woman committed suicide allegedly due to the harassment by her husband for dowry.
According to Medipally police, the deceased - A Lavanya, was married to one Shekhar Reddy of Boduppal about 18 months ago. At the time of marriage, a dowry of Rs 3 lakh was promised by her parents. However, they could pay only Rs 2.20 lakh.
Shekhar was allegedly harassing Lavanya to pressurise her parent to pay the remaining Rs 80,000 of dowry amount. About three months ago, Lavanya was blessed with a baby girl. Lavanya's parents held a function at their residence and gifted one tola gold chain to the baby.
On Thursday night, Shekhar came to his house in an inebriated condition and asked Lavanya to tell her parents to deposit remaining dowry amount of Rs 80,000 in the baby's name in the next few days.
Upset over her husband's behaviour and harassment for dowry, Lavanya committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling fan. Medipally police registered a case and further investigations are on.
