Dy Mayor Meraj to resign on Friday
Hyderabad, Dec 15 (INN): Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain Meraj will submit resignation from the post on Friday at 3 pm.
The resignation letter will be handed over GHMC Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy. The resignation is being submitted as a part of power sharing pact between the Congress and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen wherein the parties will swap the Mayor and Deputy Mayor's post for two years.
It may be mentioned that Karthika Reddy has already submitted her resignation on December 5. The GHMC's Special General Body will be held on December 17 at 10.30 am to accept Mayor's resignation.
This will be followed by an ordinary meeting at 11 am to confirm the resignation. After the acceptance of Mayor's resignation, the GHMC Commissioner will intimate the State Election Commission about the vacancy and later, the commission will issue a fresh notification for the election of a new GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
The Hyderabad District Collector will be the Returning Officer for these elections.
The new Mayor will be from the MIM while the Deputy Mayor's post will be occupied by a Congress corporator.
