180 kgs Ganja seized, one held Hyderabad, Dec 26 (INN): In a major breakthrough, the City Police has arrested one person and seized about 180 kilograms of Ganja from his possession.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) Ch Ramchander said that the Tappachabutra Police on Sunday evening arrested one person - Y Bhaskar Rao near Gudimalkapur. Rao, 50, was a native of East Godavari district was arrested while he was waiting for his associate in his Tata Sierra vehicle.
On searching the vehicle, police found 10 blue colour plastic carry bags containing nine small packets of Ganja. Each packet contained about two kilograms of Ganja.
On further enquiry, it was revealed that he along with his associated used to secure the Ganja in tribal village of East Godavari and Visakhapatnam district for supplying in Hyderabad.
He also confessed that, in view of New Year celebrations he got huge quantity order from his associates.
The DCP said that they used to pay Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for two kilograms pack to cultivators and were selling the same for amounts of Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 per two kg packet to the sellers in Dhoolpet area. The seized Ganja is estimated to be worth about Rs 8 lakh.
