Accused in IPS murder case arrested after 19 years
HYDERABAD: Nearly two decades after the assassination of additional superintendent of police, G Krishna Prasad and his gunman, police on Monday arrested one of the accused.
The person, Mohammed Najeeb Ahmed alias Mohammed Sikander Ali is the brother of Mohammed Mujeeb Ahmed, the key accused presently lodged in a prison in Rajasthan.
According to sources, Najeeb was also present at the location where Krishna Prasad and his gunmen G Venkateswara Rao were gunned down in an encounter at Brindavan Colony in Tolichowki on November 29, 1992.
Krishna Prasad had gone to Brindavan Colony on getting information about the presence of terror elements. 'Najeeb was present when the encounter took place.
But he did not shoot the officer. He was aware that his brother was in possession of arms and tried to prevent police when they went to nab Mujeeb,'' an officer said.
According to the deputy commissioner of police (detective department) J Satyanarayana, Najeeb has been absconding since the killing of Krishna Prasad.
'He was evading arrest by changing his residence frequently. He also changed his name wherever he went,'' he said.
With police on a massive hunt, Najeeb shifted his residence to West Bengal and stayed there for a year and even married a girl.
'Najeeb did not even attend the funeral of his daughter, Farheen, who died some years back fearing arrest. The girl was employed as a maid in a house and died after she was hit by the employer,'' sources said.
