Women alleges police harassment in a dowry case Hyderabad, Jan 19 (INN): Around 20 women staged a dharna before the office of South Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police at Purani Haveli here on Thursday in protest against the alleged harassment by the local police in a dowry case.
The women alleged that the Santoshnagar police wrongly booked two neighbours in a dowry harassment case. Based on a complaint filed by Reshma, the Santoshnagar police registered a case of attempt to murder, dowry harassment and other relevant sections against her husband Ghouse Pasha and her in-laws, all residents of Shaheen Nagar about two months ago.
However, the police arrested their neibhbours - Zarina and Razia in the case this week. Zarina's relatives claimed that as the case pertains to dowry harassment, being neighbours they were not at all connected with the case.
Accompanied with the local residents, the relatives first met Home Minister K Sabitha Indra Reddy seeking help on Thursday morning and on her directions met DCP - South Zone Manish Kumar Sinha. The DCP has assured the relatives that he would enquire into the matter.
