Prof. Hanumantha Rao appointed UoH Chancellor Hyderabad: Prof. Ch Hanumantha Rao, former member of the Planning Commission and member of the National Advisory Council, Government of India, had been appointed Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad for a period of three years on Wednesday.
Expressing his happiness at being appointed as the Chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Prof. Hanumantha Rao thanked the President Pratibha Patil for taking the decision.
'UoH has been a top ranking institution in the country for many years for its academic excellence and I will strive my best to see that it excels further,' he told.
Prof. Rao was born in 1929 in Karimnagar district. He did his Ph D in Economics from Delhi University and has also worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the department of Economics, University of Chicago, during 1966-67.
Prof. Rao was the president of Indian Economic Association, 2009-10 and is the Honorary Professor at the Institute of Economic Growth, University of Delhi and Centre for Economic Social Studies, Hyderabad.
He had authored 10 books, edited seven books and published over 100 research papers and articles in academic journals in India and abroad.
Prof. Rao was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004 for his contributions in the fields of Literature and Education.
