No takers for GHMC's 'Face 2 Face' Hyderabad, March 3 (INN): The monthly 'Face to Face' programme of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation appears to be turning out into a ritual as number of public with grievances gradually coming down.
At one side, the number of complaints received in the programme is coming down each month and on the other, it seems the GHMC officials too are not taking the programme seriously.
On Saturday, only 12 telephone calls were received during the Face to Face programme held at the GHMC Heaquarters at Tank Bund.
GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain and Commissioner MT Krishna Babu looked so non-interested that they left the venue about 20 minutes before the conclusion of one-hour programme.
After receiving the telephonic calls for first half, the Mayor and Commissioner received just seven complaints in person. Although a few other residents were waiting for their turn to give the complaint, both Mayor and Commissioner walked out from the Face to Face hall.
Of 12 calls, four were related to the increase in property tax. A resident of Mehdipatnam, Wajahat Ahmed, complained that he was in receipt of a notice for payment of Rs 40,000 property tax which he said was abnormal.
The commissioner assured him that a Deputy Commissioner would visit his place to solve the issue. Another caller from Sitaphalmandi said that although the GHMC claims that 10 per cent of the property tax towards libraries, no library exists in his locality.
T Ramulu, a resident of Hanuman Nagar in Moula Ali, complained that a 400-metre road in his locality remained dug for the last one year.
B Satyanarayana of LB Nagar complained that the GHMC has delayed the grant of permission for the construction of his house for more than two years and finally when he started construction, he was being harassed by the GHMC officials.
A resident of Mangalhat complained that the several residents in his area were affected with respiratory diseases like asthama due to dust being caused from the prolonged construction of road in Seetharambagh.
Several residents who could not submit their petitions to the commissioner complained that their time and resources were wasted in reaching the GHMC headquarters. They said if the officials were not serious about meeting them, then they should have announced it in advance.
The other departments too showed their lack of interest in the Face to Face programme. Except for Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board managing director Aadhar Sinha, no senior official attended the programme.
No representative from the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district collectorate attended the programme. Similarly, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority completely ignored it.
However, the police department was represented by an Assistant Commissioner of Police rank official. While the CPDCL was has sent one senior official.
