Compensation for Nagole fire victims
HYDERABAD: A day after a major fire devastated over 500 huts at Sainagar colony in Nagole, the families who lost everything in the fire were yet to come out of the shock.
As many as 520 families who lost everything in the fire slept on the road with their children near their gutted huts on Saturday night.
Meanwhile the government initiated relief measures for the fire victims and each family was given Rs 8,000 for immediate use. K Rajendar, tahsildar of Rangareddy East Zone, distributed clothes to them.
Two rehabilitation centres at Sainagar community hall and a medical camp were also arranged at the accident site.
According to preliminary estimates a total number of 520 huts were gutted and the estimated loss is put at Rs 1.1 crore Rangareddy district joint collector Sudarshan Reddy said relief arrangements including food were made for the hut-dwellers in the nearby open place and community halls.
'We have decided to give Rs1.5 lakh to each family who lost their valuables and Rs 5 lakh to the kin of Sandhya who was killed in the fire,'' he said.
Meanwhile the body of Sandhya was shifted to her native place Bandanagaram village in Warangal district.
CPI state secretary K Narayana and CPI Wyra MLA Chandravathi Banoth visited the accident site and consoled the victims. They distributed bread and milk for the children and sarees to women.
YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also visited Nagole and consoled those who were rendered homeless. He spent time with the family memebrs of M Sandhya, the girl who died in the accident.
Later, he met K Rajendar, tahsildar of Rangareddy East Zone and enquired about the arrangements being made for rehabilitation of the affected people.
He also demanded construction of a house for every affected family without delay. Police said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
