1200 aspirants get jobs in GHMC Job Mela Hyderabad, June 5 (INN): The first ever Mega Job Mela organised by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday turned out to be a success in terms of participation, but proved farce when it came to the jobs and salaries that were offered to the candidates.
The GHMC claimed that a total of 6,200 applications were registered and 1200 jobs have been confirmed and of 6,200 applications registered in the Mega Job Mela for a total of 5,415 posts offered by 36 companies, nearly 1200 jobs were confirmed.
However, the GHMC said that segregation was being done in the data base and some more jobs would be confirmed after due procedures in a day or two.
However, a majority of posts that were offered to the candidates were related to sales and customer services and the salaries ranged from Rs 4,500 to Rs 15,000.
There were no separate queues for boys and girls leading to chaos. The shortage of space too has added to the problems.
Further, many aspirants were disappointed that the companies did not offer jobs for highly qualified professionals.
'I'm a civil engineer and there is not a single vacancy for this job. Even the salaries being offered for other posts are too low,' said Mohammad Ateeq, an aspirant.
However, some aspirants felt happy about the Job Mela. 'I recently finished my SCC and did a diploma in IT. I have been short-listed for the second round of interview,' said Syeda Tabasum.
The hiring companies too complained of shortage of space and glitches in the management of event.
'Due to shortage of space and high number of aspirants, we will be conducting the second round of interviews at our office later,' Real Shopping HR Manager Lavanya told INN.
While some companies complained that they were not getting the suitable candidates, many candidates did not find jobs that match their academic qualification.
'I did my MBA (HR) and was expecting an offer of Rs 22,000 - Rs 27,000. But there is not a single vacancy on offer that matches my qualification and they too are offering just Rs 8,000 monthly salary,' Shahzaman, another aspirant, said.
Earlier, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi inaugurated the Mega Job Mela and advised the job aspirants not to shy away from hard work.
He recalled that when he went to London for studies, he got a job from McDonalds and was offered just one-and-a-half pounds to clean the toilets.
He praised the GHMC for its initiative of holding Job Melas and hoped that the same would help in eradication of unemployment and poverty.
GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu said that the response GHMC got for the Job Mela was tremendous. He said the GHMC would design a mechanism to train the unemployed youth and would also ensure that the youth hired in Job Melas are retained by the companies.
GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain informed that the corporation would organise Job Melas once in two months in all the zones of the GHMC limits. Yakutpura MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, GHMC Additional Commissioner (UCD) SV Raghuprasad and other senior officials were also present.
