Charminar pedestrian project on hold till Ramzan Hyderabad, June 8 (INN): Following objections from the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has deferred the works on the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project till the end of holy month of Ramzan.
MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Friday held a meeting along with GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain, Commissioner MT Krishna Babu and other senior officials regarding the long-pending pedestrianisation project.
After the meeting, he told reporters that the GHMC has been asked to hold the project till the end of Ramzan festival which is likely begin in the third week of July.
He said that Charminar area was the commercial hub of entire Old City and the execution of project works during Ramzan month would affect the businesses.
However, Owaisi said the GHMC has been asked to begin the works on the construction of model road from Royal Function Hall to Charminar via Sardar Mahal.
He also accused the GHMC of ignoring the maintenance of heritage buildings in the city. He said the recent painting of City College and High Court buildings was not as per the norms.
MIM MLAs Ahmed Balala and Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, GHMC Zonal Commissioner (South) Ravi Kiran and other senior officials were present in the meeting held in the premises of Princess Esra Hospital.
