Dowry case: NRI's passport impounded Hyderabad: The passport of a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) has been impounded following the orders of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in connection with a dowry harassment case registered by the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
The passport, which has been impounded, belongs to the accused Nalluri Suman, currently living in USA, according to a release issued by the CID on Thursday.
A case was registered against him in November 2009 under the provisions of Dowry Prohibition Act and Domestic Violence Act and a chargesheet was filed in June 2010.
However, the accused has been evading arrest and refusing to appear before the court, the release said. Subsequently, the Crime Investigation Department initiated steps for impounding the passport of Suman.
The release also said that the woman protection cell of the CID has been working hard for impounding the passports of NRI accused involved in marital harassment cases.
