Theft charge drives girl to death Hyderabad: A 24-year-old- girl who had attempted suicide near Shivarampally by setting herself ablaze after police questioned her regarding a theft case succumbed to injuries in hospital on Wednesday.
Priyanka aka Pinky, 24 a resident of Shivarampally set herself ablaze on September 4. Her family members alleged that Pinky got upset when the Chatrinaka police questioned her regarding a theft case.
Pinky went to her aunt's place in Chatrinaka during Bonalu festival when a theft was reported in her house. Her aunt suspected that she could have committed theft of gold.
Chatrinaka police who registered the case has questioned Pinky at their police station. This made her feel insulted and reportedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze on September 4.
Pinky was shifted to Osmania hospital with severe burn injuries. She died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday.
Shivarampally police registered the case and said it was a regular questioning of a suspect whereas her family members alleged it was police who are responsible for her death.
