Armyman, daughter run over by truck HYDERABAD: A 48-year-old Army havaldar and his 17-year-old daughter were crushed to death under the wheels of a concrete mixing truck at Gachibowli in Raidurgam police limits here on Sunday. Police took the truck driver into custody.
According to the police, when the father-daughter duo were riding a two-wheeler, the speeding truck hit their bike from behind killing them on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as T Ramaswamy, a Havaldar at the Golconda Artillery Centre and resident of Ibrahimbagh, and his daughter Nivedita. They hailed from Tamil Nadu and settled down here.
The duo were returning home from the University of Hyderabad after Nivedita appeared for an examination. As the victims, riding a Scooty, reached the Gachibowli flyover, a concrete mixing truck rammed the bike from behind, killing Ramaswamy and his daughter on the spot, said Raidurgam police inspector A Balakoti.
Nivedita wrote an entrance examination of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) at the central university.
KVPY is a scholarship programme funded by the central government's department of science and technology to encourage students to take up research in basic sciences, engineering and medicine.
