Engineering students turn vehicle lifters HYDERABAD: The Kukatpally Housing Board Colony (KPHB) police arrested four persons including two engineering students in connection with vehicle lifting offences and recovered 16 stolen vehicles including 12 cars worth `30 lakh from their possession.
According to police, during a routine check, they detained an Alto car bearing registration number AP 10H 5354 at Bhagyanagr Colony.
They asked Manoj (22), an engineering student of the SS Institute of Technology (SSIT), Dundigul, who was driving the car, to show the documents.
With Manoj failing to produce valid documents for the vehicle, police took him into custody.
'During the course of interrogation, Manoj confessed that he along with his friends, Siva Shankar and Karthik committed as many as 20 vehicle thefts in various localities in the city.
Karthik is pursuing engineering degree in the city and Siva Shankar has recently completed his graduation,' said Kukatpally assistant commissioner of police M Malla Reddy.
Based on information given by Manoj, police nabbed Siva Shankar, Karthik and one Vinod Kumar. The accused were stealing vehicles to earn easy money, said the ACP. The KHPB police registered cases. Investigating is on.
