Police Commissioner thanks people for maintaining peace Hyderabad, Dec 6 (INN): City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma thanked the people for their cooperation in maintaining peace in the city while observing the 20th anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid on Thursday.
Talking to reporters at Charminar Police Station here on Thursday, the Commissioner said that the situation in the city, especially the Old City, has remained totally peaceful.
He said this possible due to the complete cooperation of people living in the Old City. He said although the police do not anticipate any trouble on Friday, but it would make elaborate arrangements to maintain peace.
Replying to a question, Anurag Sharma said that the police never stopped anyone from offering prayers at Mecca Masjid and it would never do so in future. He appealed to the people not to believe such rumours.
When asked whether the police would allow reciting of "Salaam" at Chilla-e-Mubarak abutting Charminar, he said it would depend upon the situation on Friday.
The Commissioner said that the police have enforced some restrictions on the movement of traffic near Charminar only to ensure law and order.
However, he expressed confidence that the situation would continue to be normal and peaceful on Friday.
