GHMC meet likely to be stormy Hyderabad, February 17 (INN): The special meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation being held on Monday is likely to be stormy. The major parties - MIM, Congress, Telugu Desam Party and BJP corporators have finalised their strategies for the special meeting.
Speaking to INN, TDP GHMC floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy said that the GHMC budget should be discussed for at least three days on the lines of State Budget that gets discussed in the Legislative Assembly.
He demanded that all corporators should be given an opportunity to speak on the budget proposals and their views should be incorporated in the final budget.
Singireddy said that about 80 lakh people living in the GHMC limits have been facing hardship due to lack of basis amenities. He alleged that no new roads were constructed in the city during the last three years while crores of rupees have been wasted in the name of patch works.
He said the traffic junctions and signalling needs immediate improvement and the corporation needs to increase its spending on street lights.
He said the corporations should also focus on construction of boundary walls for graveyards in the city limits. He said the TDP would also raise the issue of Proper Tax during the special meeting.
The Congress party too is planning to raise similar issues during the meeting. Congress GHMC floor leader D Rambabu alleged that the officials have been neglecting the suggestions of corporators and therefore, they should be made more accountable.
He said the corporation did not learn lessons from several incidents that happened due to bad storm water drains. He said the nalas spread across 625 km in the GHMC limits needs modernisation.
He warned that the Congress party would launch agitation if these issues were not attended immediately.
BJP floor leader Bangari Prakash said that his party would raise the issue of failure of GHMC officials in collection of Property Tax from the city's influential people. He also demanded that the budget meeting of the GHMC should be extended for in-depth discussion on all major issues.
