Womens day celebrations by ATA, NJ

New Jersey, March 11, 2013: American Telugu Association (ATA) has commemorated its 1st International Women's Day on March 10that Chutney Manor, NewJersey USA. Women from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware and Connecticut were participated. Women from all walks of life including doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, home makers, IT professionals, and community service attended.
All ladies were in 'PINK'. Feminist group from all over the world is associated with pink as their color Pink is for love and peace. Organizing committee member of ATA 2013 International Women's Day Smt. Jamuna Puskur welcomed the gathering. The Program started with lighting of lamp by chief guest,acting Consul General of India, Indian Consulate NY, Smt. Dr. Devyani Kobragade. Addressing a gathering of 400 people, she stressed the need of women empowerment and need for education and economic independence for women.
Dr Suneeta Kanumuri, immediate past president of AAPI, spoke on women entrepreneurship. Madhavi Aruva, from AT&T, spoke on balance between work and life, Sister Sandhya of Brahmakumari's spoke on women and peace. A power point presentation on Global women who achieved great heights was done by Madhavi Aruva and Mythili Reddy.
Leadership from ATA addressed the gathering and talked about the upcoming 13th ATA Conference and Youth Convention in Philadelphia in July 2014. On this occasion ATA women team felicitated Smt Madhavi Polepalli founder of H.E.L.P. Foundation.org for her social service towards taking care of orphanage children in Andhra Pradesh.
The IWD WomenATA team raised 400 dollars by selling raffle tickets and the entire proceeds went to Manvia local New Jersey-based women's rights organization that works to end all the forms of violence against South Asian women living in the U.S.
Celebrated birthdays of the LADIES who born on March 8thto 10th. A quiz on IndianWomen in news was conducted by JamunaPuskurand KalpanaSuwarna, ladies showed great enthusiasm in answering questions. A game show on sarees conducted by Bindu Madiraju, Bhanu Maganti, Anu Dasari and Varudhini Mitta. Dumb Charades on Telugu women oriented movies was done by Kalpana Suwarna, Sangeetha Dhannapuneni and Jyothy Muthyala.
All winners were awarded prizes. Best dressed women award was given by Manju Bharghava TFAS president to Anjali and Nagamani.
Throughout the event, there were many amazing performances by women. Melodious songs by Lavanya Sathish, classical dances by Nirmala Sistla, Tollywood and Bollywood dance performances by Kavitha Thotakura and team brought lightening excitement in the crowd and got a huge applause!
Saree stalls, Jewellery vendors were a special attraction for the Women.
The UN declares an International Women's Day theme and for 2013 it is 'A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women' and all the ladies supported the UN slogan. All women who attended the event raised their voice against the atrocities of women and condemned violence against women in any form.They got motivated and decided to give some part of their earnings to human causes.

This event was coordinated by ATA Regional Coordinators Raghuveer Reddy and Bhaghawan Pingle. Well organized by Jamuna Puskur, Ramesh Maganti and Parmesh Bheemreddy, convener of 2014 ATA Conference. This event was supported by Local ATA Board of trustees, standing committee chairs and all other ATA local leaders.
