Dr. Ramoo explains Indian Agrarian Crisis in NJ

Somerset, NJ: Dr Ramanjaneyulu, director of Center for Sustainable Agriculture, http://www.csa-india.org/ provided an insight into the Agrarian Crisis during a 3 hour interactive session held at the TP Entertainment Studios, New Jersey. Dr Ramoo was in the US to attend the annual volunteer conference hosted by Association for India Development (AID - http://www.aidindia.org ) and as part of his visit, he was touring multiple cities along the east cost interacting with people from various walks of life in an effort to create awareness about the agrarian crisis.
The talk in New Jersey was attended by members of AID, PFL (People for Loksatta, http://www.peopleforloksatta.org ), students from Rutgers University and other concerned individuals. Despite a severe flood warning and that too on a Friday evening several people attended the session.
Dr Ramoo started the session with Green Revolution and went on to talk about the farmer suicides, the farming trends, the food habits, the credit system or the lack of it. The talk also focussed on replicable solutions that have been implemented in multiple districts across various states - solutions which focussed on reducing input costs, crop rotation, food processing units, moving farmers up the value chain and their by maximizing the profits and organic farming.
Dr Ramoo as part of his concluding remarks stressed on the need to be very wary of the food we eat - we are what we eat and highlighted how this is directly related to the farming crisis.
The event was jointly hosted by AID princeton chapter and i4Farmers ( http://www.i4Farmers.org ). i4Farmers is a not for profit organization working towards making individuals part of the solution to the agrarian crisis.
