ATA Celebrated Independence Day in Chicago Chicago, August 19th: Telugu Community in Chicago area has celebrated Indian Independence day at the heart of Devon Avenue in Chicago on August 17th 2013.
American Telugu Association (ATA) and Telugu Association of Greater Chicago (TAGC) took charge and participated in parade at Devon Avenue on the eve of Indian Independence Day.
Governor of IL Pat Quinn, Former Obama Chief of Staff and former commerce secretary Bill Daley participated in the Independence Day celebrations organized by Federation of Indian Association. The event started with flag hoisting, Indian national anthem Janaganamana followed by the address of the Governor.
ATA President Karunakar Madhavaram, TAGC President Ramesh Garapaty, and ATA trustee Kalyan Anandula together with Board members Ravi Upad, Jagan Bukkaraju, Ram Ade, Srinivas Pedamallu, Pradeep Kandimalla and Anji Reddy led the parade. Over 50 youth members, from the community, dressed in traditional Indian clothing were riding on the float which was decorated with Indian and American flags was a special attraction through out the parade.
People from all over the Chicago area flocked Devon Avenue to watch the parade that lasted for more than an hour.
