Impressive display of Telangana in New York I-Day Parade

New York, August 19th, 2013: Telangana NRI Association (TeNA), held an impressive display of Telangana culture and identity as a part of India day parade in New York City on August 18th, 2013.
Telangana NRIs from surrounding states and as far as from Boston and Washington DC enthusiastically participated to celebrate Indian Independence Day and also display the Telangana culture.
Telangana NRIs expressed joy and happiness over the Govt's recent decision to form the Telangana state which is a result of decades of struggle and sacrifices of thousands of youth of Telangana. They were jubilant and gave slogans and held placards reading 'Jai Bharat Jai Telangana', Naya Bharat ke liye Naya Telangana' (For a new India a newTelangana), 'Telangana Born to Lead India', 'Telangana - 29th state of India Born' and 'Telangana Amaraveerulaku Johar Johar'
While, women members of the group carried Bathukammas, Bonalu and sang Bathukamma songs, men played Dappu and danced. The colorful display of huge Bathukammas and Bonalu stood as special attraction in the whole parade. Many onlookers took photographs and videos of the Bathukammas.
In addition, the marchers carried posters displaying many cultural symbols and icons of Telangana; Kakatiya Toranam, Charminar, Goclonda fort, Pochampally and Gadwal sarees, Pembarti brass works.
Narayana Swamy, the Chairman of the Telangana NRI Association said 'Telangana has rich and unique cultural heritage and we are proud to display it to Indian Diaspora here in New York and rest of the world'
Venkat Maroju, President of TeNA said, 'It is very special Independence Day for Telanganites worldwide as we are going to get our own Telangana state very shortly after a long struggle and thanked thousands of martyrs and lakhs of activists who have put up a very spirited but peaceful and democratic fight achieve the goal'
Amar Karmilla, Vice President of TeNA said, 'We are happy and proud to participate in the India Day parade' and thanked all the participants and organizers for coming out in large numbers and making it a huge success.
Ravi Dhannapuneni, Sravanth Poreddy, Arvind Thakkalapalli, Vishnu Madhavaram, Sudheer Raju, Sudheer Boyinpally, Venu Nakshtram and Sravan Nagapuri worked hard and took care of all the logistics required to make this event a grand success. Last but not least, Harikrishna Vangala from India helped with the beautiful banner designs and printing.
