All set for Palair by-elections today All arrangements are in place for the peaceful conduct of by-elections to Palair Assembly Constituency of Khammam district in Telangana on Monday.
A total of 190,351 voters will decide the fate of 13 candidates who are in the fray. They include nine independents. By-elections for Palair were necessitated due to the sudden demise of sitting Congress MLA and PAC Chairman Ramreddy Venkat Reddy in March this year.
The Palair by-elections is expected to be triangular contest between TRS, Congress and CPI (M). TRS has fielded Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao while the opposition Congress has named Venkat Reddy's wife Sucharitha Reddy as its candidate. CPI (M) has fielded P. Sudharshan Rao in the fray. TDP and YSR Congress, who are not contesting the polls, are supporting the candidature of Sucharitha Reddy. BJP too is not contesting the by-elections.
According to Khammam District Collector Dana Kishore, elaborate security arrangements have been made for the by-elections. Besides police personnel from the Telangana State, Central Para-military forces too have been deployed. Eligible voters will be able to cast their vote at 243 polling stations from 7 AM to 6 PM. The results will be declared on May 19.
