Rs. 41,000 Cr loans to TS Discoms Hyderabad, May 20 (INN): Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Friday informed that the Central Government has decided to provide loans of Rs. 41,000 crore to improve the functioning of Discoms in Telangana State. Of this, Rs. 11,300 Crore has already been sanctioned.
He was speaking after holding a review meeting with senior officials on power generation and supply in Telangana State. Speaking to media persons later, Dattatreya said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to ensure better power supply in all States across India and therefore, launched the Uday Scheme. He advised Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to join the scheme by signing an agreement with the Centre.
Dattatreya informed that the Centre was providing Rs. 16,000 crore to Telangana State for the construction of Yadadiri Power Plant. Of this, Rs. 4,000 Crore has been released. He said that the Prime Minister would lay the foundation stone for this project soon. He said in the first phase, the NTPC would generate 1600 MW of power by 2020.
The Union Minister said that the Centre was taking several steps to converse energy. He said several States were being provided LED bulbs. He said 12 municipalities of Telangana would benefit from the scheme. He said that the Centre proposes to include 72 more municipalities to provide 1.25 crore LED bulbs to 60 lakh households in the State. This move would save about 15 MW of energy. He said 35,000 street lights and LED bulbs have been sanctioned for GHMC which would save 153 MU of power.
Dattatreya said that the Centre was promoting solar power generation across the country. He said that the Centre has approved solar power generation of 500 MW in Telangana and it was ready to add another 500 MW.
