Ponguleti seeks Sagar water for Khammam Hyderabad, Dec 21 (INN): MLC and Congress leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Wednesday said that 2.5 lakh acres of land in Khammam district did not get irrigation water for two years from Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal and demanded the government to immediately release the irrigation water to save farmers of the region.
Sudhakar Reddy said that the farmers under the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut in Khammam were losing their crops due to lack of irrigation. He said that though the reservoir got enough inflows during recent rains the government was not releasing water to farmers. He said that the farmers were facing severe crisis in the wake of demonetization and lack of loan waiver. He demanded the Opposition parties to unite to fight for the rights of the farmers of the region. He also demanded the government to act strictly against those involved in adulteration of chilli powder.
The Congress leader said that the government was not taking any step with regard to division of High Court.
