KTR: Committed to develop Hyderabad as global city
Hyderabad, Jan 17 (INN): Stating that Hyderabad has one third of Telangana's population, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao on Tuesday said that the state government was committed to develop the capital city in all spheres and make it a global city.
Speaking on the issue of development of Hyderabad during a short discussion in Legislative Assembly, KTR said that Hyderabad contributes 45% of the State's GDP. He said that after the TRS Government came to power, it was making all efforts to develop Hyderabad to develop it as a global city. He said that the state government had promptly dealt with power scarcity in the city. He said that the state topped in the rankings of Ease of Doing Business and Hyderabad development played a vital role in it.
Brushing aside allegations of negligence on part of the GHMC in developing areas like Amberpet in the city, the minister said that the government carried over various development works in all parts of the city impartially. Our work for developing Hyderabad fetched us 99 seats in the GHMC elections, KTR said.
The minister said that the law and order situation in the city and the state was good. He said that the government was keen in taking up alternatives to prevent encroachments of nalas in the city.
KTR said that at the time of state formation Hyderabad had only 20,000 commercial water connection. He said after the GHMC conducted surveys the number now went over 30,000. He said that the government was making HMWSSB a self sufficient organization and was providing all help.
The minister said that the State Government took up a survey on Property Tax payers and found out many discrepancies in self assessments of individuals. After the proper assessment of properties, the revenues of the GHMC in the form of taxes went up. He said that the government did not hike property taxes but only brought the individuals under tax-net who evaded taxes due to under valuation of properties.
