Telangana Cabinet takes major decisions

Hyderabad, Feb 2 (INN): The Telangana State Cabinet, which met at the State Secretariat on Thursday, took several major decisions.

During the cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, it has been decided to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee to bring in reforms in jails. The Sub-Committee will be headed by Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy while ministers K. Tarakarama Rao, Etela Rajender and Indrakaran Reddy will be its members. "Changes will be brought in the existing Acts to give stringent punishments to those criminals committing acid attacks. Such criminals will be sentenced for 10 years imprisonment and the fine collected from those convicts would be given to the members of the victim's family or victims. Amendments will be made to the Acts to incorporate these changes," said a press release from the Chief Minister's Office.

The cabinet has also decided to construct a reservoir at Malkapur in Station Ghanpur Constituency to stabilize Devadula Ayucut. Instead of Kanthanapally Barrage, a barrage will be constructed at Tupakulagudem on Godavari River. Further, it has been decided to abolish Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar projects. Following the completion of Bhakta Ramdas Lift Irrigation Scheme much ahead of the schedule, it has been decided to identify Lift Irrigation Schemes, which can be completed on fast track. A Sub-Committee headed by Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao with Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari and Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao as members will study the Lift Irrigation schemes.

The cabinet has also decided to shift surplus staff in several departments to other departments with workload. A Fisheries College will be set up at LMD Karimnagar. The cabinet decided to expedite measures for construction of 2BHK houses in the State. The construction of Government offices and offices of the Police Department will be completed within a year.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has asked all the ministers to carefully study the Union Budget and plan the proposed State Budget department wise.

Meanwhile, speaking to media persona after the cabinet meeting, Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari informed that it has been decided to promote 2,487 Language Pandits and 1045 PETs as School Assistants.
