Dalit Organisations Chalo HCU on 17th

Hyderabad, Jan 14 (INN): Various Dalit organisations gave a call for 'Chalo HCU' on January 17 to protest against the destruction of the portraits of Dr. BR ambedkar and other Dalit leaders and harassment of Dalit students allegedly by Hyderabad Central University Vice-Chancellor Podile Apparao.

The decision was taken in a round table meeting held by Rohith Vemula Struggle and Solidarity Committee held on Monday. In this meeting, the organisations such as KNPS, ASA, OPDR, Dalit Sena, DTF, TSEC, CLC, Virasam, TPF, MSO, TVV, DSO, DSU, CAM, BRV(AP) and other organisations have participated and condemned the alleged acts of Podile Apparao. They also demanded the removal of Podile Apparao as VC and his arrest under SC/ST PoA Act. Professors including as Dr. KY Ratnam (UoH), Dr. G Vijay (Gen Sec. UHTA), Prof. Padmaja shaw (OU), Prof. Kasim (OU) have also participated in the meeting.

Narayan Rao from CLC has said that the University is creating all disturbances to students in order to prevent them from demanding Justice for Rohith Vemula and curb the meeting to be organised in memory of Rohith Vemula.

Lakshmaiah from KNPS has given a call for Chalo HCU on 17 January 2019 in solidarity with the protesting students seeking justice for Rohith vemula and against the destruction of the portraits of Dr BR Ambedkar and other Dalit leaders. He also demanded that Gachibowli police must immediately register a FIR against Podile Apparao in accordance with Section 18 A of SC/ST PoA Act.

Prof. Kasim has said that it is imperative for all forces to fight for upholding constitutional values at a point of time when RSS is implementing Manusmriti across several Universities and Podile Apparao is one such person executing the agenda of RSS Manudharma sastra.

Dr. G Vijay Gen Sec of UHTA has said that we have joined district level campaign seeking justice for Rohith Vemula in the larger context of protecting freedom in the University and preserving dissent in democracy.

Dontha Prashanth said there is undeclared emergency in the campus with continuous harrassment with the dalit students who are fighting for justice for Rohith Vemula. Podile Apparao by preventing media from entering campus from past three years he is hiding a large number of atrocities being committed against dalit students.

JB Raju from Dalit Sena has said that the University of Hyderabad has murdered Rohith Vemula and has further reiterated that all Dalit organizations will join in the call for Chalo HCU on 17 January 2019 against the destruction of Portraits of Dr. BR Ambedkar and other Dalit leaders by Podile Apparao.

Dr. KY Ratnam appealed to all the Dalit organizations to file cases against University for destroying the portraits of Dr. BR Ambedkar and all Dalit leaders. He reminded Podile Apparao and police that those portraits are not mere flexis but are symbols of self-respect. It is shame on the part of University for dubbing Ambedkar, Periyar, Phule as casteist. It must be remembered that in Maharashtra for touching Ambedkar statue even Governments fell down.

Prof. Chakradhar Rao has said that all these attempts by University administration is aimed at depriving of education to Dalit bahujans.

Nalamasa Krishna from TPF has extended support for Chalo HCU on 17 January 2019. B Maddeleti fron TVV has said that we will organise district level demonstrations against the continuous atrocities by Podile Apparao in University of Hyderabad.

Samson Gidla ASA President has thanked the organisations for extending their support. Prof. Padmaja Shaw, Munna Sannaki, Naresh, Vijay and others have participated in the meeting.
