Telangana leading in Healthcare: KTR

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (INN): BioAsia, the Asia's largest Biotechnology and Life-sciences forum, in its second day witnessed a high-quality discussion between TRS Working President K T Rama Rao and Chief Economic Advisor to Govt of India Krishnamurthy Subramaniam on the topic of shaping India's role in Global Healthcare - a political and economic perspective.

During the chat, KT Ramarao asked the Chief Economic Advisor to increase the freedom of states in taking decisions related to healthcare and also in the utilization of the funds allocated for healthcare services. As the states understand the real issues at the ground level to ensure that the benefits reach to the ultimate needy people at grass root level. He also stressed upon the need of collaborative work between State and Centre so that some of the best healthcare programs like Kanti Velugu, Telangana Diagnostics, Telangana Dialysis Centres which are being successfully run in Telangana state can be replicated in other states also and a unified system can be implemented across the country using such experiences of the State.

KTR further mentioned that the research should be prioritise and an attractive policy can be drafted wherein in Government and Private players can jointly research in healthcare like the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad: (RICH) of Telangana state. Hyderabad has already made its presence felt in the global Pharma and Vaccine manufacturing and using its strength in technology it is also poised to be a front runner in Digital Drug discovery.

In his address, Prof. Krishnamurthy Subramaniam, said, 'As a percentage to our GDP, India spends better than some of the Asian countries and the out of pocket expenditure by Indians is way above then the other countries. However, the level of government control in India is low than developed countries. Therefore, there is a role of government to think about the design of the healthcare sector in the economy. Looking at 15-20 years from now, healthcare will not be only about cure, but about wellbeing, preventive medicine and simultaneously Alternative Medication like Ayurveda and Homeopathy can play a role in it. In fact, the industry can also play a significant role in a surgical strike on Cancer cells as Nanotechnology and Genome programming can help in treating accurately rather than impacting the healthy cells surrounded and then Cancer may not remain a fearful word as it is today.'

The other highlight of day-2 was the CEO Conclave wherein the panel discussed India for the world: Exploring new horizons! how can India seize upside of disruption. the high impact panelists included prominent personalities like Pankaj Patel, Chairman and MD, Zydus Cadila; Satish Reddy, Chairman, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories; Samir Mehta, Chairman, Torrent Pharma, Frank Yao, Co-Chairman, Fosun Pharma; A.
