Curfew lifted in Vizianagaram town Visakhapatnam, Oct 19 (INN): Following complete restoration of normalcy, the authorities on Saturday lifted curfew from the violence-hit Vizianagaram town.
The decision to completely lift the curfew was taken as no incident of violence was reported in the town in the last 10 days. However, the authorities said that the Section 144 would remain imposed in the town as a precautionary measure.
It may be mentioned that curfew was imposed in the Vizianagaram town on October 5 following violent protest against the Centre's decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana.
Besides resorting to arson and looting at a few places, the protestors targeted the properties of PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana. With improvement in the situation, the day curfew was lifted on October 14. Over 500 people have been taken into custody in connection with incidents of violence.
